In April, McKinsey & Company released an article on COVID-19 and jobs. In it, McKinsey estimates “that up to 57 million US jobs are now vulnerable, across multiple industries and occupations,” as a result of the public health crisis brought on by the pandemic and its effect on the economy. This twin challenge, they argue, "may require a new playbook, rapid innovation, learning, and adaptation.” Layer in the impact this is having on Latinos who are already disproportionately impacted by lower education rates, high employment concentration in sectors with vulnerable and low paying jobs. It’s important to engage Latino leaders across the business and social sectors to understand what the data is telling us and ways we can address the growing challenges to the Latino community.

In response, McKinsey, in partnership with LCDA, will be initiating its 2020 Hispanic & Latino Economic Forum (HLEF) next week. Our inaugural forum in 2019 was highly successful and included strong LCDA member engagement and attendance. In 2020, given current circumstances, HLEF will go virtual and hold a series of webinar discussions that build on one another. The first webinar is based on their April COVID-19 and jobs research and will also include additional nuggets on its impact and consequences for Latino families’ income, wealth, education, and health.

Time is critical and action necessary to mitigate the impact these unprecedented challenges are having on our community. We are expecting a solid group of Latino leaders across industries at the HLEF and hope you can join us, too, on these important and timely webinar discussions.

The first HLEF webinar will be open. Feel free to forward this invitation to other Latino leaders that can contribute to discussions. For any questions, please reach out to Hispanic_Latino_Economic_Forum@McKinsey.com. Register below and mark your calendars!
