Greetings LCDA Familia,

LCDA recently released a comprehensive fact sheet, “Sounding the Alarm: Latino Board Trends, 2010-2020,” with data compiled from the last decade regarding Latino representation on corporate boards. More pressure has arisen for boards to focus on racial diversity. Yet Latinos have largely been left out of this progress.  The graph below demonstrates how over the last decade, Latinos have lost ground while the Latino population has grown two times faster than their representation on Fortune 500 boards. To make matters worse, recent reports show that Latinos have the widest gap to close in corporate board representation of all underrepresented groups.

As the nation’s largest ethnic group, Latinos accounted for 51.1 percent of the country’s demographic growth over the last decade, shooting up to 62.1 million, almost 20 percent of the US population, according to newly released data in the 2020 census. These numbers reflect a massive and growing Latino market, with the Latino GDP growing 72 percent faster than non-Latino GDP from 2010-2018. At a time when diversity is recognized as a business imperative, companies would be wise to tap qualified Latinos for their boardrooms.

We thank you for your support as LCDA continues to be part of the solution, leading in advocating for growth, promoting opportunities, and increasing demand for Latinos in corporate leadership and board governance.

Stay safe and healthy,
