LCDEF Webinars | Latino Board Tracker | Member Spotlight | LCDA News

Greetings LCDA Familia,

The number of US Latinos on corporate boards is staggeringly low and there has been no progress in the last decade by any measure. In response, LCDA announced the "Latino Voices for Boardroom Equity" initiative in partnership with leading business and civic leaders, including League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), UnidosUS, the Mexican American Legal Defense Fund (MALDEF), the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC), the Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA), and the National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC). This initiative will target and engage with US public companies lacking Latino representation. Progress will be tracked and shared through the publication of a quarterly scorecard. Read Bloomberg's coverage of this initiative.

California Latino leaders are urging Governor Newsom to sign AB 979 into law in advance of the September 30 legislative deadline. AB 979 defines underrepresented communities as African Americans, Asian and Pacific Islanders, Latinos, Native Americans and LBGTQ. The text of AB 979 cites LCDA's California Company Board Research and California Latina Research. As their first act, the “Latino Voices for Boardroom Equity” sent a letter of support to Governor Newsom urging him to sign AB 979. >READ MORE

We’re inspired by your commitment to board diversity, and incredibly excited to share more updates on LCDA's incredible progress.

Stay safe and healthy,

COVID-19 and the ongoing social unrest around policing practices and systemic inequalities has brought to light the importance of social factors to a company’s bottom line. It has also driven an increasing acknowledgement that social factors, in combination with financial metrics and environmental and governance factors, can help investors understand how resilient a company may be. The decisions companies make now will impact how their employees view them, how their customers view them, and ultimately how they are viewed by investors. In 2020, companies will be measured on two things - liquidity and humanity.
