April 2022
Greetings LCDA Familia,
I am pleased to report on the latest programming and offerings for members and the overall LCDA network.
First, we’ve launched our spring and summer BoardWise Virtual sessions focused on board-trending ideas, insights, and interaction. Last week, we teamed up with McKinsey’s Latino & Hispanic Economic Forum (HLEF) to present The Economic State of Latinos in America: The Opportunity Gap, based on their ground-breaking report on this subject. The findings reveal that Latinos start more businesses per capita than other racial or ethnic groups, yet face continued challenges in securing financing. In a situation of parity, “Latino businesses could generate an additional $2.3 trillion in total revenue each year, and 735,000 new businesses could be created supporting 6.6 million new jobs.” Moving forward, LCDA will be partnering with McKinsey to produce and distribute resources that will help our members share this crucial information with their colleagues, boards, and companies.
Today, April 6, will be our next BoardWise Virtual Session, Update on Proposed SEC Regulation Changes. This important session features a fireside chat with former SEC commissioners, followed by a deep-dive with a guest speaker and expert on the proposed climate change regulations, to learn what questions you should be asking in the boardroom, and of your company officers, to ensure they’re ready for these changes. Join us to keep up to date on this important topic.
Second, as a reminder, we kicked-off the 2022 Spring programming of our premier BoardReady Institute (BRI). This unique and comprehensive set of programs are offered twice a year, Spring and Fall. The Spring BRI will continue in person May 10 to 12 in New York City hosted by Goldman Sachs. We offer two different concurrent tracks:
BRI core is designed to prepare highly-credentialed executives and national leaders to begin their journey to the boardroom and be best positioned to serve as a vetted talent pool for corporate board service. BRI core is targeted at new Executive Members who have not completed board-ready programming or directors who are serving on their first private board (less than 2 years).
BRINext is the next level in programming for members interested in taking a deeper dive in corporate governance education and seeking a strategic understanding of the inner-workings of corporate boards. This program is targeted at first-time directors (less than 5 years) and Executive Members who completed core BRI programming in previous year(s) or other board-readiness programs through other sources.
Registration is required and there is a program fee for this valuable programming. NOTE: As of this week, registration for Spring BRI core is closed - sold out. Registration for the BRINext track is still open.
Contact BRI Manager, Lisa Hodges, at lhodges@latinocorporatedirectors.org for the registration link, fees, or questions.
Third, last month, LCDA featured contributions by LCDA member Latinas to commemorate Women’s History Month. LCDA continues to celebrate and recognize our amazing Latina members who represent a vast wealth of talent both in the boardroom and at the C-level. The fact remains, Latinas represented just 1% of Fortune 1000 company boards in 2021, and are the least represented group on these boards. Make no mistake, there is ample LATINA talent.
We look forward to our continued work to increase Latino representation in corporate boardrooms jointly with our members and partners.
