There is a new legislative push to diversify the boards of Federal Home Loan Banks (FHLB), which historically, have been predominately White and male. FHLBs play a vital role in providing liquidity to member institutions to support housing finance and community investments in their regions. This public mission places an important obligation on the banks to help address unmet housing needs of diverse, low- and moderate-income households. This is why ensuring diverse voices and leadership on these boards is essential to promote excellence in corporate governance.

LCDA works proactively with the Council of Federal Home Loan Banks and individual regional banks to connect them with exceptional executives in their service areas to lend their talent, experience, and expertise to advance the mission of FHLBs. There is a role for you to play if you are interested in these types of board opportunities.

LCDEF has put together a distinguished panel of speakers for a webinar on how you can support communities by serving on a FHLB board. Here is what you can learn from the session:

  • The structure of FHLB system – the basics
  • Board member types and criteria for an independent member seat
  • What FHLBs are doing to diversify their boards and how LCDA members can be of assistance
