The New York Times: Board Diversity Increased in 2021. Some Ask What Took So Long

The number of Hispanic people on boards, for example, went up 15 percent, yet they make up only 3 percent of the total, far shy of their 18.5 percent share of the population. 

 

"It is still not— as you can see from the numbers — growing at the level that it needs to," said Esther Aguilera, [CEO] of Latino Corporate Directors Association. She added, "We celebrate all diverse appointments, but Latinos are being left behind."

Morgan Stanley: Does Ethnic Diversity on Corporate Boards Affect Stock Prices?

For U.S. companies, the study found, racial and ethnic diversity on the corporate boards of large-caps had a significant positive impact on stock price: The difference in returns between stocks of companies with the highest number of people of color on their boards and those with the least was 1.5%. "Our research suggests that using racial and ethnic board diversity factors can improve U.S. large-cap equity stock selection." -Yijia Chen, ESG Quantitative Research Analyst and Index Manager, Calvert Research and Management

Agenda: Tyson Commits to Racial Equity Audit After Shareholder Demand

The American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS) filed an investor proposal calling for a race-specific audit. Tyson said it had intended to undertake a human rights assessment, to include racial equality, before the proposal was filed, but hadn't publicized the plan.
